Maximising resources in sheep farming

Location: Various farms and workshops in Malta and Gozo

Time frame: 2014 - present

In 2013, Merill launched an EU-funded project to strengthen, empower and assist the network. As part of the project Merill, together with artisan weaver Antoine tan-Newl, acquired two specialised pieces of equipment for the processing of sheep's wool. Antoine had been weaving sheeps' wool for many years, but sourcing it was becoming a huge challenge for different reasons.

Sheep wool production was a bustling activity in older days, but nowadays it is common practice for farmers to dispose of such material. Apart from the environmental impact, this is a valuable resource completely wasted! The small-scale equipment acquired for Antoine kickstarted once again this practice, and we now hope that it expands further.
